What could be cuter than kids taking a sweet nap? But of course, kids taking a sweet nap with their doggies!
As long as it’s supervised by adults, having dogs around babies and toddlers can be good for the kids. For instance, a recent survey made in Finland and published in a pediatrics journal discovered that babies with dogs are less likely to develop colds or ear infections than infants with no canine companions. However, they need to be exposed to dogs from a very early age for this to work.
The survey also showed that babies with dogs who spend some time outside develop a stronger immune system: “It might have something to do with dirt brought inside by the dogs, especially since the strongest protective effect was seen with children living in houses where dogs spent a lot of time outside,” said Dr. Eija Bergroth, a pediatrician at Kuopio University Hospital in Finland.
However, do remember that this is only a single survey, and adult supervision and judgement are needed to make the best decision about exposing your child to a dog.
