Shelby Hennick is a 21-year-old veterinary technician. She loves animals, and so does her grandmother, Dona. Unfortunately, Dona was hospitalized a few days ago, after experiencing complications from one of the medications she was taking.
Being very ill, she was unable to see her beloved canine companion, Patsy. Shelby’s mother knew that Dona was upset and told Shelby she should try to take Patsy in to see her. As we all know, animals are often the best medicine.
“My grandma is in the hospital right now and wanted to see her dog. So I made it look like I was carrying a baby and we made it,” Shelby explained.
Fearing she wouldn’t make it through the hospital doors, Shelby wrapped Patsy up like a human baby and walked right into the hospital. Staff smiled and waved at her, not realizing that it wasn’t an infant she had, but a tiny dog. Dona even thought Shelby had taken in her sister’s newborn baby for a visit, but was happily surprised when Patsy dropped right onto her lap!
Shelby says Patsy wouldn’t stop crying while seeing her favorite human. She’s 13 years old now, but she came to live with Dona when she was just a few weeks old. She needed to be bottle fed and nursed to health, which Dona happily did. Since then, their bond has been incredible. When Shelby shared the news on Twitter, many others shared their similar stories! It’s great to know that dogs are truly enriching peoples’ lives in the worst of times.
